The building was completed in 1925 and became home to The Northern Daily Leader, Tamworths local newspaper, which began in 1876 and underwent many title changes up until 1921. The Boer War Memorial stands in its original place in the centre of the intersection. It was later relocated in 1929 to the park opposite the railway station.
